What is an e-Visit?

An e-Visit is an electronic visit between a patient and provider regarding a non-emergency health care concern. Through MyChart, you will be asked a series of questions. Your provider will then review your answers and, in consultation with your personal health record, address your concerns.

Why should I use an e-Visit?

e-Visits have been developed to enhance the care you receive from your primary care physician.

  • Your Health Record: Unlike other services, e-Visits put your health record right in front of your provider's eyes.
  • Convenience: With e-Visits, there is no need to wait for an appointment or go to an urgent care when you aren't feeling well. Simply log-in to MyChart and talk to your doctor.
  • Speed: You will receive a response within four hours during e-Visit hours (Monday-Friday: 8am-5pm).
  • Privacy: e-Visits take place privately and securely within MyChart, which will be updated immediately for future reference.

Can I submit an e-Visit for someone else?

For patient safety reasons, it is important that you do not submit e-Visits for other people from your MyChart account. Even for spouses, parents or others covered by the same insurance plan, you must only submit your own medical information from your MyChart account.

Your e-Visit will be sent directly to your CMP primary care provider, who will review your medical history along with the information you provide in your e-Visit questionnaire to determine the appropriate treatment recommendation for you.

To ensure that your medical record contains the correct information now and in the future, you must not submit e-Visits regarding other people. If you have MyChart proxy access to another person over the age of 18, you can submit an e-Visit regarding that person from his or her account. To do this, connect to the other person's account by clicking the button with his or her name in the Accounts bar at the top of the screen, and send the e-Visit from within his/her account.

Who can submit an e-Visit?

MyChart e-Visits are available to adults (18 and older) who have seen their primary care provider and who have an active MyChart account. If you have not yet seen your primary care provider, you will not be able to conduct an e-Visit until after your initial appointment. e-Visits are not available for anyone under 18 at this time.

How much does an e-Visit cost?

During the six-month Pilot Program, if you are part of an HMO, your fee will be $10. The cost to non-HMO members will be $45. Please consult your plan administrator with questions.

Why do I have to give my credit card before the visit?

We need your credit card information before the consultation to confirm the payment method is valid. A hold will be placed on your credit card, but it will not be charged until the consultation has been completed.

Will prescriptions, tests or other services be covered by the e-Visit cost?

Any prescriptions, or additional tests or services ordered that you receive will be billed separately. They are not considered part of the e-Visit.

What is included in a MyChart e-Visit?

Your fee covers review of your e-Visit answers, personal medical record and treatment recommendations. The fee does not include the cost of other services such as prescription drugs, laboratory tests or X-rays, if any of these are needed.

Will my flex spending program cover the cost of an e-Visit?

Funds from your Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) program may be applied to the cost of an e-Visit. Check with your FSA program administrator for more information.

What if I need to be seen in person?

When your provider reviews your answers and medical record, he or she might determine that you should be seen in person instead of being treated through an e-Visit. In this case the provider will contact you via MyChart or by phone. When this occurs, the cost of the e-Visit will be refunded.

How long does an e-Visit take?

Plan to spend 10-15 minutes to complete your e-Visit questionnaire. You cannot save a draft to continue later.

Who will respond to my e-Visit?

Your e-Visit will be handled by your CMP primary care provider, who has access to your personal health records.

When will I receive a reply?

Your CMP provider will review your answers along with your medical record and will make every effort to respond within four hours for e-Visits initiated between 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. e-Visits submitted after 5pm on weekdays will be responded to by 10am the next business morning.

How will I be contacted?

You will receive your e-Visit response in MyChart. In some cases, a provider might decide it is best to speak with you by phone. You will be asked to provide a phone number where we can reach you in the event we need to speak with you directly.

Can my e-Visit be cancelled?

At any time during the e-Visit, the provider may terminate the service and advise you to seek treatment from an in-person provider visit or, if it appears to the provider that the symptoms suggest an emergency, to seek care at the closest emergency room.

I'm feeling worse. What should I do?

If at any time your symptoms worsen, and you feel you should be seen, do not hesitate to call your primary care provider or visit your nearest urgent care. If you are experiencing a life- or limb-threatening injury or illness, please call 911 immediately.

Do not use e-Visits for conditions requiring emergency care.
